Medical History & Treatment Journey

Under the Care of Dr. Oladele Johnson Kazum

From day one,

Dr. Oladele Johnson Kazum has been my treating doctor.

He has guided me with treatment plans and helped establish connections between each practice involved in my care — including physiotherapy, chiropractic, osteopathy,

and other recommended treatments.

My injury first occurred in August.

At the time, I continued working despite the pain,

relying on private treatments I paid for myself —

such as osteopaths, chiropractors, and other remedies —

in order to manage shifts and survive at work.

However, instead of improving, my condition steadily worsened week by week.

By early November,

the lower back pain had developed into a serious physical problem,

mainly affecting my left leg.

Prior to my first consultation with Dr. Kazum,

I had managed to keep working up until the weekend before.

But by this stage, my mobility was rapidly declining.

I found myself unable to work long distances,

and with each passing week I became less and less mobile.

I struggled to walk, barely managed to drive,

and the lower half of my body felt as though it was failing me.

Eventually, walking became unbearable and unmanageable.

At times, my left leg would simply lose strength and control.

I would be walking and suddenly fall,

or try to stand from a chair and collapse because my left leg gave out.

As the weeks went on,

my movement became more restricted until I reached a point where I could not move another inch.

I was bed-ridden, unable to walk,

move, or even lift my head from the pillow.

On one particular Tuesday,

my symptoms worsened dramatically.

I was confined to bed, screaming in pain, crippled,

and completely helpless.

My flatmate called an ambulance,

but when the paramedics arrived,

there was very little they could do because I could not move without excruciating pain.

Even the thought of getting to hospital or packing an overnight bag was impossible.

After the immediate pain eased slightly,

I declined transport to hospital and realised this was the point where I needed to formally see a doctor and begin proper medical treatment.

Dr. Oladele Johnson Kazum was the doctor assigned to me at that time.

from memory, he was the first available appointment.

During the initial consultation,

Dr. Kazum immediately suspected the problem was a bulging disc or a possible herniated disc.

He told me frankly that I would not be able to work with this type of injury and explained it would take a long time to heal.

While he could not confirm the exact diagnosis without imaging, he recognised the seriousness straight away and arranged referrals for further investigation.

Dr. Kazum promptly referred me for a CT scan, X-rays,

and to a neurosurgeon.

The CT scan showed some abnormality,

but the injury could not be seen clearly. At my first appointment with the Gold Coast Hospital neurosurgeon,

further investigation was requested,

including an MRI scan.

The neurosurgeon rebooked me to allow time for healing and to arrange the MRI.

By March,

after the MRI was completed,

the neurosurgeon confirmed that

I had two herniated discs in my lower back,

with a tear and protruding disc tissue impinging into the nerve cavity of the left S1 nerve pathway.

Surgery was initially required as early as January. In addition,

Dr. Kazum had referred me for hip X-rays,

which revealed hip bursitis and sciatic nerve involvement,

all related to the herniated discs.

Throughout this period,

Dr. Kazum not only managed the overall treatment plan

but also monitored my general health.

By July, due to prolonged pain,

lack of sleep, and exhaustion, I developed heart problems including irregular or missed heartbeats.

On that day, he arranged urgent blood tests and personally watched over me while they were carried out.

He went out of his way to escalate the results and saw me immediately once they were returned.

His care, kindness, and attentiveness that day is something I will never forget.

Up to the present day,

Dr. Oladele Johnson Kazum has remained my treating doctor and has stood by me from the beginning.

He has been central to managing my case,

providing not only medical care but also emotional support, guidance, and coordination between specialists.

Through his experience, expertise, and professional network, he has ensured

I was placed on the right path with every step of my recovery.

I am deeply grateful for the remarkable support and care he has given me.

Without Dr. Kazum’s guidance and ongoing commitment,

I do not know where I would be today.

He has truly been the cornerstone of my recovery journey.

A sincere thank you to my treating doctor, Dr. Oladele Johnson Kazum.
